I recently purchased Minecraft for Xbox 360 and am still learning the ropes, so to speak. I would like to build a sliding gate using some asphalt blocks and a sticky piston, but I don't know where to find redstone.
Also, I found gold ore, but wasn't able to mine it with my rock pickaxe. What kind of pickaxe do yous need to mine it?
Finally, where do y'all find dimond?
Thank you for any help you lot give.

You demand an iron pick to mine gilt. You find redstone deep underground (I'yard not sure exactly how far down). And I don't know where to find dimond simply you lot find diamond at y=16 or lower.

Strip mining or branch mining around Y:15 is ordinarily a practiced fashion to find simply nigh anything. This is where diamonds tend to be, and I usually detect enough of gold, iron, redstone, and coal along the way. In guild to mine redstone, gilt, or diamonds, you lot need an fe pickaxe.

Y 12 is best to find diamonds and blood-red stone and gold and you need a iron pick to collect them

Presuming you don't have, nor want to frequently use, fire resist potions, h2o flows better downwards, and and then does lava. If you start in a higher place it, it won't drop on your head and you lot can hands douse it with water and collect the obsidian from it, while starting beneath the lava risks having information technology drop on your head when you lot aren't prepared for it and you take to work with throwing water at it from below or at the sides, which isn't every bit easy nor as effective.

If I'one thousand interested in clearing an area of essentially all ores below Level 12, I commencement at Level 12 and work my mode downward, mining always thorugh a layer of water. That manner, if the ore happens to be sitting over a puddle of lava below information technology, the h2o I cascade above/around it instantly turns the lava into obsidian and the drop is not accidentally consumed by the lava. However, attempting to clear all the ores is a rather inefficient way of mining; it'south far more time effective to shoot for clearing a high percentage of the ores. If will usually simply effort to completely "strip" an area of ores IF I'm also planning some sort of cloak-and-dagger build there.
If you're using a branch mining technique, this involves making tunnels only five or 6 blocks autonomously (as opposed to every second or third block that people seem to do). Due to the way that many ores spawn in groups/veins of four to 8 blocks, you lot are very likely to come across nigh of the blocks of ores in this way and you're not wasting so much time immigration abroad stone.
If you start mining at level 12 and work your way downward, y'all will besides be able to pinpoint the location of the larger lava lakes. Dropping some gravel into various areas of those lakes (as you turn the topmost layer into obsidian in order to walk over it volition enable you to make up one's mind the depth of the lake and determine whether or not information technology is even worth trying to dig downward any further in that expanse (since some of the lakes at level 12 become right to bedrock over some very large areas. If at that place is no lava encountered at level 12, there is a strong risk that the area will non contain much lava right to bedrock and, therefore, have more than ores available for mining at the lower levels without worrying well-nigh having lava dump on your head or having to clear abroad too much obsidian.
There are actually so large a number of ores (fifty-fifty over ix,000 diamonds) available in the world that I find it often only necessary to do much mining correct at Level 12... specially if you manage to enchant a "fortune" pickaxe.

To find diamonds I unremarkably co-operative mine at level y-10. I go down one path that is 4 blocks high, that way I check y-x, y-11, y-12, y-13, and run across the bottom of y-14. Then, subsequently you have went down the aforementioned path for erstwhile, Then become iii blocks over, and mine back the other way. This is your best bet at finding diamonds. There are many different methods of doing so, but this is what works best for me! If you would like, I tin can show you lot how to practice it! Simply send me a friend request on XBL and I will be glad to aid!
